Behind the Artworks
As I mentioned before, I find working on the computer very enjoyable, but I also love creating things with pencils, paint, and other tools. I have been drawn to creative activities since I was a child, whether it’s drawing, painting, sculpting, or woodworking. During my childhood, there weren’t any easily accessible computer programs for kids to use, so I would spend my time crafting and drawing instead. Even now, I still find great joy in these activities and can completely lose myself in them. In a world dominated by technology and computers, it’s sometimes nice to take a break and just have a pen and paper in hand.
Aquarel paint
In 2023, I bought my first watercolor set because I wanted to take it with me on my travels. Taking photographs is one thing, but sitting in a place and really focusing on the details is something else. I am still finding my style in watercolor painting, but I notice that with every painting, I am getting better at it. It’s truly relaxing to focus on your painting and see it come to life.
GLOW Light Art Festival
In my second year at SintLucas, the entire year group had to create a light object. The seven best were selected and exhibited at Glow in Eindhoven. My light object was a cloud that I made myself. First, I glued balloons together and covered them with papier-mâché made from newspapers and white paper. Then, I attached cotton to the outside with a glue gun until everything was covered. Hanging from the cloud were cardboard butterflies, decorated with a mosaic of old CDs. To complete the look, I made holes at the bottom of the cloud for the lights, which reflected off the butterflies.
Custom Dutch Clogs
In September 2024, I received a fun assignment to customize wooden clogs. The company I did this for is a butter and cheese trading business. How fun is it to give the clogs a cheese-inspired style? So, that’s exactly what I did! First, I started by sketching the holes that needed to go on the clogs. Then, I sanded in the holes, not all at the same depth, since that’s how it is with cheese. After that, I painted the clogs yellow and added the company's logo in the top left corner. This was one of the most unique projects I’ve worked on in a while. It didn’t always go smoothly, but that’s how you learn something new with every project.
Custom surfboard
The company I worked for wanted to transform the place for the summer, adding more summer decorations and props. This also had to be done for the wardrobe. They had seen a surfboard and I suggested that I could paint it. First, I had to sand off the original color of the surfboard. Then, I could start painting. I began with a few layers of white, followed by the final sketch and adding color. Lastly, I painted the word ‘garderobe’ on it (Dutch for wardrobe), and voilà!
